Mattia Walschaers: 2025 recipient of the Fabry-De Gramont Prize

Mattia Walschaers, a researcher at the LKB, has received the 2025 Fabry-De Gramont Prize in recognition of his contributions to continuous-variable quantum optics.
His research focuses on the study of non-Gaussian states and their applications in quantum information and metrology. His work has notably revealed the link between quantum steering and the negativity of the Wigner function, as well as identified the role of stellar rank in achieving quantum computational advantage.
He has also contributed to pioneering experimental demonstrations, including the generation of multimode non-Gaussian quantum states and imaging techniques based on the demultiplexing of spatial modes.
More recently, his team has made significant advances in the study of continuous-variable quantum correlations and in the generation of multimode non-Gaussian quantum states.
Established by the French Optical Society (SFO), the Fabry-de Gramont Prize pays tribute to Charles Fabry (1867–1945), physicist and first Director General of the Institut d’Optique, renowned for his pioneering work on optical interference, and to Armand de Gramont (1879–1962), an optical industry pioneer and founder of the Institut d’Optique. The prize is awarded each year to a young researcher under the age of 40 whose work stands out for its quality, originality, and potential impact, and who has already gained international recognition.
