Jean Dalibard : winner of the 2025 Alessandro Volta Prize

European Physical Society – EPS

Jean Dalibard has been awarded the 2026 Alessandro Volta Prize, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to laser cooling, light–matter interactions, and groundbreaking achievements in the quantum many-body physics of ultracold gases.

The announcement was made during the European Physical Society (EPS) Council meeting in Vilnius, with the award ceremony to take place on 2 October 2026 in Como, hometown of Alessandro Volta.

This prestigious prize, supported by Gruppo Acinque, celebrates scientific excellence and the enduring impact of physics on society.

Jean Dalibard’s remarkable career and contributions to quantum and atomic physics continue to expand our understanding of nature and inspire future scientific advances.
