Atoms and light in dense or complex media

The experimental and theoretical research carried out within this area ranges from studies of helium in its gaseous, liquid, and solid phases, using optical or NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) techniques, to investigations of light propagation and control in disordered systems. In helium studies, light is used as a tool to precisely characterize these different phases or to control their internal (spin) states. Conversely, controlling the propagation of light in complex media offers numerous potential applications in imaging and optical computing.
