X-ray photons have very desirable properties: they carry large momentum, are robust, have exceptional penetration depth, good detection efficiency and remarkable focusing potential, far from any practical diffraction-limit constraint. However, at present the degree of control over x-ray photons is far from what has been achieved at optical frequencies. The talk will focus on how resonant interactions together with cavity and waveguide QED can be used to control x-ray photons. We aim to design from theory side a new generation of photonic devices that can manipulate x-ray light by exploiting concepts of non-Hermitian and topological photonics.
To this end we will introduce the physics of specially designed nanostructures which interact with x-rays via resonant transitions in atomic nuclei. Exploiting quantum optics concepts, x-ray quantum control will open so-far unexplored avenues for non-destructive quantum imaging and give access to the remarkable properties of x-ray photons for quantum applications.
