Scopes and Objectives of the Meeting

This symposium celebrates the 40th anniversary of the launch of quantum optics activities at the Kastler Brossel Laboratory, which represents a significant milestone for the field at the national and international levels. Over these four decades, these activities have diversified considerably, ranging from the design of non-classical light sources to the development of gravitational interferometers, including optomechanics, the study of dynamic effects of the quantum vacuum, and quantum photonics in semiconductors. Built around the four founding figures of these activities, Elisabeth Giacobino, Claude Fabre, Antoine Heidmann, and Serge Reynaud, this symposium offers an update on quantum optics, its emergence, development, impact, and prospects. Their testimony will be combined with contributions from internationally renowned figures, who will share their visions of the field as a foundation and source of inspiration for their past, present, and future research.
