Thibaut JACQMIN

Thibaut Jacqmin was recruited as a research associate professor in 2015 at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel and Sorbonne University. Previously, he achieved a PhD in the team of Isabelle Bouchoule, within the Atom Optics’group of Alain Aspect at Laboratoire Charles Fabry (Orsay University, Institutd’Optique Graduate School), on ultracold one-dimensionnal Bose gases. He obtained several results, like the experimental realization of a strongly interacting 1D Bose gas on a atom chip, and the first observation of a quasi-condensate in the regime where quantum fluctuations play a role. He then moved to the group of Jacqueline Bloch at Laboratoire de Photonique et de Nanostructures (now C2N, CNRS), where he studied polaritons in arrays of micro-cavities: in particular he realized a graphene analog based on a honeycomb lattice of micro-cavities, and performed the first direct observation of flat energy bands in 2D and 1D systems.

Research topics

  • Ultra high-Q nanomechanical resonator modes
  • Exotic superconducting circuits (e. g. heavy fluxonium)
  • Hybrid quantum systems involving superconducting qubits and mechanical systems
  • Quantum sensing (charge sensors, gravimeters, accelerometers)
  • Quantum memories
  • Fundamental tests (e. g. Diosi/Penrose) with hybrid quantum systems
