Dysprosium lab

Our research explores novel states of quantum matter using ultracold dysprosium atoms. Dysprosium’s exceptionally rich electronic structure gives rise to a large magnetic moment, associated with a total electronic angular momentum of J = 8. This unique property provides a versatile platform for investigating a broad range of quantum phenomena.

We use ultracold dysprosium atoms for several complementary research directions, including:

– the generation of highly non-classical spin states for quantum-enhanced metrology;

– the simulation of the quantum Hall effect and other topological quantum systems, where the atomic spin projections can be interpreted as a synthetic dimension.
